Spelling Bee on Feb. 25!

Top two students from each class will compete on Feb. 25.  Winners from each grade will receive ribbons, and 1st and 2nd place winners will receive a trophy.  District spelling bee will be on March 1.


"The Magic of Writing" Competition Entries due Feb. 8!


Students in 3rd -5th grades are eligible to enter.
Only one entry per student.
Only single author stories qualify (no co-authored stories please).
Entries can be handwritten or typed.
Entries can be on any topic using one of the following types of writing:
   1. Narrative Writing (writing that tells a story to the reader,
       either real or imaginary).
   2. Informational Writing (writing that conveys accurate
       information to help the understanding of the reader).
   3. Opinion Writing (persuasive writing that demonstrates to the
       reader, the writer’s position on a subject, belief or conclusion).
Entry word count should range from 200-1000 words.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded per grade level.

SPELLING BEE

Get Ready for South Elementary's Annual Spelling Bee   

The spelling rules, regulations and parent note will be coming home on November 9th. The actual spelling packets with all of the word lists will be coming home on November 16th so be watching for them.  This will give the kids plenty of time to study up over the holiday as well as be prepared for the actual Bee in February.

Get your creativity moving and submit an entry!!  Please pick up the rules and your entry packet in the main office.  All work must be done by student ONLY and the student’s name must not be seen on the entry.  Please turn entries and completed forms into the office by Friday, November 2nd, 2012

"These 'PAWS' Don't Touch Drugs!" 

Tuesday: "Turn Your Back On Drugs" / Wear Clothes Backwards

Wednesday: "Hairs To a Drug-Free Life!" / Dress Up: Crazy Hair

Thursday: "Say Goodnight to Drugs and Tobacco" / Dress Up: PJs

Friday: "Let's Sock It To Drugs and Tobacco" / Dress Up: Crazy Socks and South T-shirt

All students will be issued "dog tags" and prizes will be awarded for participating in dress ups and wearing dog tags all week.  Activities include assemblies, red ribbon tying, and handprint pledge to remain drug free!

FALL HARVEST BREAK / UEA WEEKEND

School will be out for Fall Harvest Break and the Utah Education Association conference on Thursday, Friday and Monday, October 18, 19 and 22.

LAST MINUTE NOTES

Our BIKE RODEO after school (3:45)on Thursday, May 17th just got even BETTER!!!  Not only will you be able to register your bike with the Police Department, but you will also have a chance to BUY A NEW BIKE HELMET for only $7.50!!  Come and enjoy this exciting event!

The PTA Board Members all want to wish you a fun and safe SUMMER BREAK!!  Next school year will be all the better if you make sure you READ EVERY DAY this summer!! See you back here in August!
